The eldest daughter of three children, and the one most affected by the loss her own father, Dr. Thomas, Violetta blames Walter Shirley for all of the unfortunate events in
their lives. As a result she does her best to make life difficult for young Anne. Brazen in her patronizing attitude towards her, Violetta initially does everything she can to prevent Anne from ever becoming a part of their family.

Unafraid to speak her mind, she constantly reminds Anne of Walter Shirley’s mistakes and bad judgment, without any thought of crushing Anne’s feelings. In time, Violetta attempts to accept Anne, after her grandmother allows Anne into their household. Violetta proves to be a fair-weather friend however, when the family’s optimistic situation turns sour.

Forty years later a grown-up Anne is once again forced to face Violetta’s veiled power and prejudice against her as she tries to piece together the intricate pieces of her father’s life, in the aftermath of the Thomas family demise.
Violetta remains a formidable but invisible adversary for Anne even as an adult.

Eighteen-year old, Vivien Endicott-Douglas, developed a love for performing at a young age while play-acting with her younger sister Hannah, leading them both to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Appearing in popular shows such as Shoebox Zoo (BBC/Alberta FilmWorks) and Frankin (Nelvana), she has become a favourite to young audiences. Her work in Shoebox Zoo earned her a Bafta Nomination in the U.K. for Best First Time Performance. She has also worked in theatre having appeared in a stage production of The Crucible.
