The Anne films have long been admired for their attention to period detail, especially when it comes to the costumes. Now, thanks to the talent and perseverance of an avid Anne fan, one of Diana Barry’s costumes from “Anne of Avonlea” has been painstakingly recreated.

Kevin Sullivan’s Anne films may be the most well known, but over the years there have been several film adaptations of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic novel. In 1919, a Hollywood silent film version was produced and now, thanks to a couple in Bala, Ontario, it has been brought back to life.

It’s been 26 years since Anne of Green Gables first aired in the United States and Sullivan Entertainment wants to show their appreciation to all of Anne’s loyal fans!

Laureen Harper, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has been an avid fan of Anne of Green Gables her entire life. Mrs. Harper accompanied the PM on a trip to China last week and took the opportunity to spread the joy of Anne while she was there.

Love comes in many forms and often we don’t recognize it, even when it is staring us right in the face. Love may begin as a rivalry with someone we are fiercely competitive with, as was the case with Anne and Gilbert. Who can forget their first meeting that ended with Gilbert getting a slate broken over his head?

Anne’s Long Journey to Green Gables

Perhaps the most memorable sequence of all the Anne films is Anne’s journey from the train station to Green Gables with Matthew. On screen, this wonderful scene flows seamlessly from one shot to the next as though we were watching it unfold in real time. The reality however, is that the scene took months to complete using multiple locations in Ontario and P.E.I. and Richard Farnsworth wasn’t even in several of the shots.

When I first read the script for "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story" my first thought was: “How are we going to do this?” Finding period locations is difficult enough but finding an entire bombed out French village in Southern Ontario is impossible. The only way to convincingly depict a village devastated by war would be to build it… but where?
