This is the fourth year that the foundation’s “Heart Truth Fashion Show” is taking place – an event at which female celebrities act as models for the day and walk the runway in original red dresses, made by Canada’s top fashion designers.
The campaign is designed to increase awareness about women’s heart health, as heart disease and stroke remain the leading cause of death of women in Canada – more than all types of cancer combined.
According to the campaign, the colour red is a symbol of “women’s courage, passion and their power for change as they share the truth with others and raise awareness about the importance of heart health.” The campaign is designed to educate women about the dangers of heart disease. It teaches them how to look for warning signs in their health, as well as how to make lifestyle changes that will prevent the disease.
The event will take place in Toronto – the week before the city’s Fashion Week – and is also including male celebrities for the first time.
Other celebrities taking part include Wendy Crewson, star of Kevin Sullivan’s Sleeping Dogs Lie, as well as Bal Arneson, Tre Armstrong, Isabelle Brasseur, Deborah Cox, Arlene Dickinson, Mylene Dinh-Robic, Chan Hon Goh, Christiane Laberge, Debra McGrath, Andrea Martin, Colin Mochrie, Enuka Okuma, Seamus O'Regan, Dina Pugliese, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Emmanuelle Vaugier.
