Theatre houses across the world are putting on productions of L.M. Montgomery’s celebrated novel, Anne of Green Gables.  So it is gratifying when the focus of attention is switched instead to the author’s seventh book in the series, Rainbow Valley, which has a number of fresh, vivid characters.

Today, the book is getting workshopped as a new musical adaptation at the TADA! Theatre in Manhattan. The cast is made up of a number of musical theatre actors who have starred in a wide range of popular musicals, such as Little Women, Cats, Legally Blonde, Les Misérable, Evita and Beauty and the Beast.

The performance is part of the Emerging Artists Theatre's 7th Annual New Works Series and it features music and lyrics written by two graduates of NYC’s musical theatre graduate program

Here is how these two writers described the focus of the show: "Rainbow Valley follows the four motherless children of absent-minded minister John Meredith: laid-back Jerry, spitfire Faith, curious Carl, and shy Una. Growing up in the stern and proper town of Glen St. Mary, Canada, they are surrounded by neighbors who disapprove of their bedraggled appearance and scandalous antics. Wanting to protect their father from criticism and gossip, they form a Good Conduct Club to teach themselves how to behave, but the results turn out differently than they plan."
