Winners have been chosen from the nearly 200 submissions from 15 different Vietnamese provinces involved in the “Canada and the World of Anne of Green Gables” writing and drawing contest.

Twenty Vietnamese youth were announced as winners, with Nguyen Hong Ngoc taking the grand prize for her drawing “Wonder from Green Gables”, (pictured above), which can also be seen in its entirety here.  For her charming illustration, which captured the essence of Anne’s world, she won a cash prize (VND 5 million), books, and a red-haired Anne doll, which was presented to her by Canadian Ambassador Deanna L. Horton.

This unique contest was held in celebration of the classic novel’s first translation into Vietnamese and was organized by the Embassy of Canada, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Organization, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam and Nha Nam.

“It was very moving to see how Canada and Anne of Green Gables are portrayed in the imagination of young Vietnamese,” said Ambassador Horton, who hopes that Vietnamese youth will continue to explore Canadian culture in the future.

The awards ceremony took place on Canada Day at Friendship House in Hanoi.
