The castle has received millions of tourists over the years, including some of the world’s most famous leaders, like Winston Churchill (which, in some people’s eyes, would be proof enough of the stone’s powers!).

But it wasn’t just tourists who wanted a chance to receive this great gift. L.M. Montgomery herself was quite enthralled with the idea and was delighted when her Scottish friend, and pen pal, G.B. MacMillan, sent her a bit of stone from the castle.
On August 23, 1905, she wrote:
"My dear Mr. McMillan:
This is the fag end of a very doggy dog-day and was never meant for writing letters at all at all. But your bit of Blarney arrived to-day and I’m so full of gratitude for it that I must express it immediately before the 'bouquet' thereof evaporates. Thanks devoutly. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it. My emotions are about on a par with my kitten’s who caught his first mouse to-day!
Of course I’ve kissed the fragment believingly. Even although it isn’t the Blarney Stone itself surely some virtue must have leaked into it during the years. I shall expect an added smoothness of tongue henceforth—or perhaps it will show itself in my pen, which the gods permit!"
Since this letter was written a couple years before the publication of Anne of Green Gables in 1908, it makes you wonder whether Montgomery’s talent may have been heightened just a little with this special present from her friend.
