- Mann, the costume designer for 3 of the Anne films (Anne of Green Gables, The Sequel, and A New Beginning) insisted on absolute authenticity for all characters, right down to the underwear! She was careful to include such details as the corsets and petticoats of the era in each outfit.
- Martha Mann’s grandmother was a friend of L.M. Montgomery’s, and as a child, Mann actually ate dinner with Montgomery.
- Mann created dozens of outfits for the characters and extras, but also actually sourced original, genuine period clothes for the actors to wear.
- Frequently, Sullivan and Mann butted heads over costume choices and wardrobe details, and Mann admits that Sullivan sometimes made her compromise in her costume choices. Sullivan recalls one such compromise, where a group of extras were outfitted in costumes that didn’t fit—to stay on schedule, and because the group were only to be seen from the back, the group’s costumes were taped together at the front using gaffer’s tape!
