Two of the most important people in their lives are not in the same household together anymore. For Anne this was not the case, because she was an orphan. However, at the same time she still had the same feelings that every child feels after being torn apart from something they love.
This episode identifies emotional awareness, the ability to handle feelings and identify consequences. Anne agreed to do anything in her power to live with people who would love her. So she promised to be obedient, say her prayers, go to school and do chores.
Marilla, her caretaker, made sure Anne was well disciplined. But there were times when Anne, by mistake, did things Marilla didn’t care for. For example, in this episode Marilla was not very pleased with Anne. Anne was doing chores one afternoon and was getting all of the eggs into one basket. The then placed the basket neatly above the woodpile outside.
The next morning Marilla noticed that there was no more wood left in the house, so she went outside to get some. She didn’t notice that the egg basket was above her head. So when Marilla stood up, her head hit the shelf and the entire basket of eggs tumbled onto her head. Marilla was not happy and Anne had to deal with the consequences. But by the end of the episode, Anne realizes the important of responsibility and the importance of learning lessons along the way.
