What do you think makes something look like a ‘Green Gables’ piece of clothing/accessory?
I think the Green Gables look is a mixture of super feminine clothes (lace, knits, ribbons, puff sleeves!) combined with some touches of men’s wear (fitted vests, oxford shoes, hats). The result is that the men’s wear balances out the whole look and brings sophistication to the otherwise frilly wardrobe. So, you want to look for those kinds of prairie/bohemian pieces that are flowy and romantic but then balance them out with more tailored elements like the oxford shoes, a collared shirt, a tie, a vest, a blazer etc.
Which key search terms would you use if you’re searching online for ‘Anne’ pieces?
I try to search for the style elements I mentioned above. When I do this I try to think about the style elements of the garment as well as what kind of material it is made of. Here are some examples: Lace, high collar, ribbon, bow, puff sleeves, flat brim hat, straw bag, ruffles, oxford shoes, vests, crochet, knit, blazers, flower prints, plaid, midi skirt, raffia, lace up boots.

Here is a sample of some of the pieces Hilary highlighted.
How easy do you think it is to find old fashioned pieces that are still in style?
Right now it is super easy to find Anne pieces! If I wanted to I think I could make a new Anne outfit every month! We are lucky because oxford shoes and lace up booties are really in style right now and they are coming out with a lot of them already for fall (Anthropologie.com always has really lovely ones). Similarly, the bohemian look is in and there are a lot boho pieces that will work for the Anne look (try FreePeople.com or ShopRuche.com). I have also noticed that hats and longer skirts are becoming more fashionable. Don’t forget to check out the thrift stores and Etsy.com as well. You can often find prairie revival pieces from the 70’s, excellent hats, feminine women’s dress shirts, ties and vests.
How would you describe your own fashion tastes?
I think my own fashion taste is inspired heavily by vintage. I love true vintage pieces but it’s also really nice to find clothing brands that make vintage inspired pieces. Dear Creatures for instance is one of my favorites and they have a lot of 60’s inspired wear. I also love Seychelles Footwear they make really comfortable shoes with a vintage twist! On the weekends in summer you can usually find me running around in high-waist short-shorts, keds and flower print top!
I picked out a few more Green Gables pieces that are currently in stock since a lot of the items I picked out previously are probably hard to find now. Here are the links:
Anthropologie's Oxfords, Blazer
Free People's Monarch Wings Dress, Straw Hat
Ruche's Brass Earrings
Dear Creatures' Scallop Blouse
