Chocolate War

Turning the consumption of chocolate into a competition is an irresistible Victorian parlour game that should now be including in everyone’s next birthday party or bridal and baby shower.  Taken from Cooking with Anne of Green Gables, here is an explanation on how to play “Chocolate War”.

Always a favorite among ladies, the object of the game is to eat as much chocolate as possible.  Each player takes turns rolling a die.  If they roll a six they have a chance to eat some delicious chocolate.  The catch, however, is that they must first put on a cumbersome costume such as a pair of snow pants, scarf, hat, mittens, coat and galoshes before they can eat the chocolate using a knife and fork.  (It would be perfect to have a period costume to dress up in, complete with petticoat and pinafore instead of snowgear!).  While the potential chocolate eater is doing this, the other players are rolling the die.  When someone else rolls a six, the pursuer must stop and the next person tries.  Play continues until all the chocolate has been devoured.
