After some intense winter weather in the northeastern U.S. this week, we thought everyone might be due for some hearty, warming fare. We think this dish looks both decadent and delicious - not to mention seasonally appropriate!

Baked Turnip with Apple
1 turnip
1/4 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 cups cooked apple/wedges
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp butter
Cook and mash turnip. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper. Put 1/2 mixture in a greased casserole dish. Arrange apple on top. Sprinkle cinnamon and 1/2 of the brown sugar. Put other 1/2 of turnip mixture on top. Mix your flour with 2 tbsp butter and rest of the brown sugar. This will be a crumble. Sprinkle on top. Bake at 350F for 1 hour. A carrot can be cooked with the turnip and mashed. It adds colour and sweetness.
