There was one example I will never forget; we were shooting an episode where my character had been chosen to stand to watch over the body of a girl who had died. The man who was playing her father was a very experienced actor, (you could tell on wind when someone with incredible experience would arrive on set because some of the higher level actors; Shirley, Katherine, James - would rush to see them). The scene called for a little bit of dialogue between me and the man, but when he arrived he took the scene into his own hands.
He came into the room, looked at the girl, barely spoke a word to me, and walked over to her. He took her head in his hands, spoke his last words to the girl, and starting singing the saddest song I had ever heard.
The thing that blew me away that none of this was in the script! The man had taken a scene that was already written in a very powerful way (one of the best writers we had) and just taken it to the next level…I was floored. By the end of the scene, the whole house was bawling.
My favorite thing about Wind was the collection of top notch actors I got to rub elbows with. I was lucky to be on such a great show with great people!"
