“Canadians are often puzzled that, for overseas tourists, British Columbia is the be all and end all. So what about Prince Edward Island, at the other end of the spectrum - literally. One of the Maritime provinces and the smallest in Canada, PEI lies in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the east coast. The setting of Anne of Green Gables (you won’t fail to come away with a doll), the Island is a paradise for children, with stunning beaches (of red sand) and striking lighthouses...
This isn’t ‘raw’ Canada, having distinctly genteel English overtones with its red double-decker buses, gingerbread-trimmed Victorian houses, and preference for tea. PEI is also Canada’s greenest province. Instead of bears, you’ll be spotting Piping Plovers and Arctic Terns. (The Island boasts more than 333 species of bird.) And the menu’s more likely to offer lobster than steak. Not terrifically easy to get to (Charlottetown is the capital if you want to check out flight connections), but well worth a couple of weeks in a cottage.”
After Live with Regis and Kelly was broadcast from PEI this summer, the island became the second most searched for item on Google in the United States. Click here to read all about it!
