The award will be presented to Greenwood on Jan. 27 by ACTRA national president Ferne Downey at the house of the Canadian Consul General, David Fransen, in Los Angeles. Other actors who have received this award include the late Leslie Nielsen, Sandra Oh, Kiefer Sutherland and Eugene Levy, who also guest starred on Road to Avonlea in Season Seven’s “King of the Great White Way”.
Greenwood is known for picking diverse roles in such Canadian films as Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter (which earned him a Genie nomination and also starred Road to Avonlea’s Sarah Polley), big-budget American films like Thirteen Days, in which he expertly played the role of John F. Kennedy, and current comedies such as Dinner for Schmucks, starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. The 54-year-old also starred in J.J. Abram’s recent version of Star Trek.
Greenwood was born in Quebec and got his start on such Canadian shows as The Beachcombers, St. Elsewhere and Road to Avonlea. His portrayal of Caleb Stokes – the mysterious farmhand with a troubled past who helps Alec King on the farm – would receive just one of the many accolades of his career.
He can currently be seen in Barney’s Version, a Canadian production that earned Paul Giammati the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes last weekend. It stars a number of fellow Canadians, including Paul Gross, Scott Speedman and famous directors Atom Egoyan, David Cronenberg and Denys Arcand, to name just a few.
