The Royal couple will be visiting the island during their 10-day tour of Canada, which begins on June 30. And according to The Star, locals are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the newly dubbed “Kate of Green Gables”. An employee at the restaurant Chez Yvonne, in Cavendish, says, “It's wonderful, it’s very exciting news. I think it would be great for the area.” While Tim Cameron, the owner of Meadow Lodge, which is about 45 minutes from the Anne of Green Gables Heritage site, says their tour will be a good thing. “There are definitely no negatives involved in a visit.”
Meanwhile, organizations like the P.E.I. Tourism Department have already upgraded their servers for its visitor information site so that it doesn’t crash during the couple’s visit. Just last summer, when TV hosts Regis and Kelly broadcast their show live from Charlottetown, the province’s visitor information site crashed. At that time, P.E.I. was one of the top ten most searched for items on Google.
Brenda Gallant, P.E.I tourism's director of marketing, told CBC News that they’re doing everything they can to prepare for and capitalize on all the attention from media and visitors. They’re even putting forward their own marketing campaigns for the Royal tour, but these have to be approved by royal protocol officials. It remains to be seen what will be accepted.
