Cedric Smith set a high standard for Canadian actors to follow while portraying the patriarch of the King Family, Alec King, on Road to Avonlea.  And now the Gemini Awards - the biggest award show for Canadian television - is recognizing his talent by honoring him with a prestigious award during their upcoming broadcast.

On Sept. 7, Smith will receive a special award, along with Lloyd Robertson – veteran CTV news anchor – and the National Film Bard for their contributions to Canadian television.

The Academy’s CEO, Helga Stephenson stated, "This year's Academy Special Awards celebrate a widely diverse range of Gemini winners — from inventors and entrepreneurs to filmmakers and actors. They are exceptional representatives of the multitude of talented people who work in the Canadian television and digital media industries.”

But this isn’t Smith’s first time being honored by the Geminis.  Last year, he received their Earle Grey Award for his full body of work.  Smith also appeared in Kevin Sullivan's first Anne of Green Gables film as the Reverend Allan, provided the voice of Tupper in Sullivan's animated film, Anne: Journey to Green Gables, as well as his films Sleeping Dogs Lie and Butterbox Babies.
