Story girl Sarah Polley is back in the news, this time with great buzz about her most recent film. Take This Waltz, which she both wrote and directed, debuted at a gala presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this past Saturday.

Waltz marks a considerable departure from Polley’s 2005 directorial debut Away From Her. The film, starring Seth Rogen, Michelle Williams, Sarah Silverman and Luke Kirby, dances the line between drama and comedy. Michelle Williams plays Margot, a young woman who finds herself torn between her commitment to her husband (Seth Rogen), and her strong chemistry with another man (Luke Kirby).

A downtown Toronto setting was vital to Polley’s vision, and her team put great care into finding the perfect location for each scene. In a recent Toronto Star interview, Polley shared that the movie’s production staff distributed leaflets around several downtown neighbourhoods looking for “the perfect house.” The heat of the Toronto summer served as a vibrant backdrop for the film’s intense exploration of complex relationships.

Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen star in 'Take This Waltz.'

Take This Waltz is expected to hit theatres sometime next year.
