Road to Avonlea features some spectacular winter scenes that remind us of the beauty and joy!

The town of Avonlea is beautiful when blanketed by fresh fallen snow, and the townspeople don’t let cold temperatures stop them from getting outside to enjoy the fresh air.

Sara is eager to attend the skating festival in Season 1’s “Nothing Endures but Change”, and all the townspeople come out to enjoy the party. At the end of Season 2’s “Misfits and Miracles”, we see a competition among local hockey players, and the showdown between team captains Alec King and his rival Archie Gillis takes place on a frozen pond.

Skating and hockey are considered excellent physical activities, leading Muriel Stacy to suggest hockey as part of the new mandatory Physical Education curriculum. The whole town participates, and Sara even learns how to skate for the first time.
While we might not yet be in the firm grasp of winter, we can look forward to the coming of snow and all the fun that skating, hockey, and winter’s many sports can bring.

"Competitive sports! It's not enough I have that Stacey woman breathing down my neck in my own classroom, promoting the most uncivilized behavior among children I have ever witnessed." - Hetty King
