Here are some behind-the-scenes trivia that you may not know about the filming of Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story!

  • When Anne sees Green Gables in its desolate state, her reaction was very genuine.  Megan Follows had not seen the house since the filming of the Anne Sequel years before.  Apparently, she had to be reassured that the house would be back to normal at the end of the day.
  • Jonathan Crombie (Gilbert Blythe) was known to bring candy, treats and popcorn to the set for all the cast and workers.
  • The garden scene at the Garrison estate was inspired by photographs of The Great Gatsby.
  • Megan Follows and Schuyler Grant’s friendship off-screen was reflected in the movie.
  • Megan Follows often insisted on doing her own stunts.  During the scene where she falls on the stairs in her wedding gown, Megan would not accept the pillow offered to her.
  • The scene where Jack Garrison threatens to jump from the balcony, while a horrified Anne watches from below, was actually filmed in Toronto in the middle of winter.  Megan’s breath gives it away and serves as proof that the actor, Cameron Daddo, would have been very cold in his bare feet.
  • The actor who plays the man whose legs have been amputated is actually a Vietnam War veteran.
  • Material was taken from the diary of a travelling female entertainer during the war for the scene when Elsie talks about “the boys”.
  • When Anne and Elsie escape, much of their dialogue was ad-libbed.
  • The first scene that was shot was a scene that actually comes near the end of the movie – when Anne, Gilbert, Jack and his associate board the train to head home.
