Bright River station is more than just a railway station.  As Anne waits on the platform for Matthew Cuthbert, she is experiencing the final moments of her life as an orphan and is about to begin a new life in which she belongs to people and a place .  The image of Anne, sitting on the station bench, is an iconic symbol of the Anne movies.  And it is worth taking a look at the history of the authentic location in which it was captured.

Bright River Station is part of Westfield Heritage Village, located between Dundas and Cambridge, near Rockton, Ontario.  The Westfield Railway Station was actually originally built in Jerseyville and was the first building to be relocated to the heritage village.

Kevin Sullivan remembers the station to be “wonderfully authentic”, and he went on to film at the heritage village, using different buildings and props, for a number of other productions, including Road to Avonlea and Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story.

Fans of Road to Avonlea will remember the very first episode of the series, “The Journey Begins”, when Sara Stanley and her nanny, Louisa Banks, arrive at the station from Montreal and wait for Alec King to collect them.  This too was filmed using the Jerseyville Railway Station, which posed as Bright River.

In this way, Bright River Station marks the beginning of the story for both Anne and The Story Girl.
