Here are some fun pieces of trivia that you will be happy to learn about the making of Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel!

  • Morgan Chapman, who played Minnie May, is actually Kevin Sullivan’s niece. Her brother, Fraser, played Thomas Bell – one of the boys who teases Minnie in the film.  But he did such a good job of teasing her that it truly made her upset and it was hard consoling her.

  • In the opening shots of the film, Frank Converse, who played Morgan Harris, originally had a moustache.  But Kevin asked him to shave it off because it aged him too much.

  • It’s actually a stunt double that you’re seeing when Gilbert accidentally drives his bike into the lake and, again, when he mounts his horse to chase Anne after she whips him with her basket of flowers.

  • Four dresses were made for Megan Follows for the scene when she falls in the mud while trying to drive the cow out of the field.  However, Megan only needed one dress because she did the stunt in one solid take.

  • It took many takes for the bed to properly collapse for the scene when Anne and Diana are getting ready for the wedding.

  • Rosemary Dunsmore, who played Katherine Brooke, auditioned for the film with the monologue that she gives the night after the “Mary, Queen of Scots” play.  Viewers will remember her line, “I know I’m not social and people hate me…”.

  • Kevin Sullivan’s favourite scene between Mrs. Harris and Anne is when they discuss the journal entries that make reference to Mrs. Harris’ husband and cannibalism.

  • The opening beach scene, when Anne’s papers go flying in the wind, was shot on Prince Edward Island.

  • The scene involving the jersey cow and the scene in Anne’s classroom with the snake were very much enjoyed by those involved in the shoot.

  • The laneway that Anne and Gilbert walk down as they discuss the “Rollings Reliable” contest is actually the same lane that Anne and Marilla travel after Anne’s apology to Mrs. Lynde in the first film.
