Starting in November, Public Television stations across the United States will be able to air Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning and the original Anne of Green Gables, shown for the first time in HD, over a two-year period.

A New Beginning, starring Shirley MacLaine, Barbara Hershey and newcomer Hannah Endicott-Douglas, as the “young Anne”, takes a look at the life of Anne Shirley before she reaches Green Gables.  Keep your eyes and ears open for news about whether your local public television station will be airing this feature film by Kevin Sullivan.

An extensive restoration of Anne of Green Gables, Sullivan’s original miniseries, is now complete and will also be ready for airing.  For the first time, viewers will be able to see Anne in high definition.  Original stock footage was restored and made into a stunning widescreen version, never before seen.

Again, check with your local public television station for air times.

I will wait as long as I have to for the Blu-ray, and I will not be buying any DVD versions of this movie. Sullivan will release the blu ray as soon as he is sure that he has milked every penny from the DVD format before making the move. It's called double-dipping, and it is smart business.

I am desperate for this set on bluray. I do not want to invest the $80 on the remastered widescreen versions (although I dearly want to see this beloved series in widescreen HD) only to have it come out in less then a year on bluray. Thusly wasting $80 on a version I would only have watched 3\4 times! Please commit to making the bluray and give us a timetable of when they will be releasing! I know at least 5 of my friends who would adore it in bluray as well as myself!

As a filmmaker I enjoyed Kevin Sullivan's 'Anne of Green Gables'and also the sequel,BUT WHY GO ON AND ON AND ON.Hell what would some children and perhaps adults think of seeing a wrecked 'Green Gables' and horror of horrors someone else playing the part of Anne Shirley.Come off it Kevin where oh where are you going.? If I could place this in the state of another series, albeit a science fiction.Ridley Scott made a great horror science fiction film in 'Alien',and James Cameron followed up with 'Aliens',both excellent science fiction films BUT then another actor decided that she was a better producer than these top producers and honed in on 'Aliens3,and horror of horrors 'Aliens Ressurected'disgusting films both. Why do these people meddle in a product that is excellent and then go about destroying it,God only knows. Is it ego, or the money perhaps both? To be honest, I'm not sure when we'll be getting blu ray editions. It is something that is being discussed, but there are a lot of factors to be considered. We'll definitely keep you posted though!
