The real house that inspired L.M. Montgomery’s writings will be offering a recipe for hand-churned vanilla ice cream, while an appetizer of potted lobster is what Prince Edward Island’s historic Province House is providing.
Here is an excerpt from CBC’s article:
Chantelle MacDonald, site co-ordinator at Green Gables, said the idea is to inspire Canadians to think about their national sites.
"Parks Canada, as part of our 100th anniversary celebrations, are striving to find ways to help Canadians and people from around the world to connect with our national historic sites in Canada," she said Friday.
"Not only will people be able to create these tasty dishes that are inspired by national historic sites, but because there's a short anecdotal story about these recipes on the app, people will be able to share their stories about the dish that they've made."
Right now, these are the only two recipes that have been submitted from P.E.I.’s many historic sites, which includes Dalvay-by-the-Sea (the White Sands Hotel in Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea). But updates for the App are supposed to be on the way.
You can get these special recipes through the smartphone Heritage Gourmet App, which can be downloaded for free at the App store and Android Market. A version for Blackberries is also on the way.
We’ll keep you posted!
