A mother in law like Hetty? Yikes! lol... Firefly, I agree... her heart is often in the right place at least. :) (once she finally gets over her stubbornness. I agree to that the series would have been very different without Hetty. (although I think it could have still been great, since the books were awesome and Hetty wasn't in the books)

I agree with you in many ways Firefly. I really enjoyed the episode where we learned about Hetty's childhood I thought it really cast some light on the inner Hetty. I think it was the one about her 50th birthday. I have to admit though I get some satisfaction when she's stood up to and told off. Sara got quit good at it. But when Hetty tried to fail Felix in school I thought Alec was going to pinch her old head off!

Aw, I really like Hetty. She's stubborn and often wrong, but her heart's in the right place (usually, lol). Like so many Avonlea characters, she has her strengths and flaws, but overall, I guess there's alot of times I sympathize with her, even when she's being frustrating--like when she tries to take over Olivia's wedding, I feel like she's really looking for an outlet for her frustration because she's upset about Olivia leaving home. Or when she's snooty to Ms. Stacy, she's really just feeling insecure (and probably a tad jealous...which, although not admirable, is at least understandable). I've found she's a fascinating character to watch, and think that, without Hetty, the series would have been a lot less interesting. :)

She made me downright mad! She is so much like my ex mother in law it is crazy! They even look a like in the face all pinched! I could not believe she would not attend Gus-Felicity's wedding until Felicity dragged her.

She's okay, but one of my least favorites. At times I liked her (liked some of the Simon/Hetty episodes) but often she drove me crazy.

She can be very hard to love sometmes!
