Setting Up for The Quarantine

Viewers will remember the infamous episode in Road to Avonlea's Season 1, when Rachel Lynde, Sara and Felix are quarantined at Alexander Abraham’s house after learning that the old man has smallpox.

In “The Quarantine”, Rachel and Alexander butt heads over everything and must learn how to live in harmony together, though they both extremely set in their ways.  Alexander’s house is run-down and paints a very different picture from the luxuries of Rachel’s current home, Green Gables.

To find the perfect representation of what it might feel like to live in that kind of environment, Kevin Sullivan’s production team actually based the set on a real house they found, located in Ontario near the Green Gables used in the films.

Kevin recalls that the “decrepit” house was owned by a bachelor and that you got the feeling that he hadn’t been upstairs in years.  Since it was in no condition for a crew to film there, the solution was to replicate the exact interior of the house back at the Sullivan studio, giving viewers an authentic look at an extreme bachelor’s abode.
