Spring Fashion

It may be difficult to incorporate Road to Avonlea’s early 20th century fashions into our own wardrobes.  But a different fashion-forward era – not long after Lucy Maud’s beloved characters made their mark in the world of fiction – is making a comeback on catwalks across the world.  This spring, everything is about the 1940s.  Many designers’ spring collections have been greatly influenced by the trends of that decade, including the Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2010 Collection set.

If you’re wondering what sets the 1940s apart from say, the 1930s, then here are a few key styles that are distinctly “1940s” and can be easily adopted into your wardrobe:

- Wear short vintage dresses and cocktail dresses
- Emphasize your hour-glass shape by the clothes you choose (accentuate the shoulders and hips)
- Don’t be afraid to choose pastel colours and floral designs
- Try wearing platform wedge shoes
- Go for ruffled skirts, full skirts and frills
- For a masculine look, roll up your jeans and wear oversized shirts and sweaters
- Style your hair wavy and apply red lipstick

To incorporate a little bit of “Anne” into this new look, why not add a spray of Avonlea Fragrance or some pieces from Marilla’s Jewelry Box?

I love all of the fashions; so sophisticated and polished in a ladies fashion. Not the reveal it all floozy fashions of today. And would love to be able to style my hair in some of the styles of the ladies.
