Fiery Scene Filmed in Idyllic Spot

In the two-part series opener of Wind at my Back, “Four Walls and Roof”, viewers watch as Hub and Fat Bailey run away to the Bailey cottage on Bass Lake in the hopes of escaping their grandmother’s tyrannical rule and returning to their mother in North Bridge.

Here’s a look at the actual filming location of that idyllic spot– where less than ideal things happened to the Bailey boys – including the cottage being set on fire and Hub badly injuring his leg.

The Bailey Cottage was actually a hunting lodge that was situated on Brookdale Pond near Uxbridge, Ontario, and has been in the same family for a number of years.  Though it is a beautiful location, shooting there posed some problems due to the fact that there is only one narrow road that leads into the property.

Capturing sound was also tricky because there was a dam nearby and the sound crew had to work hard to muffle the noise of the water rushing over it.

The scenic location of the Bailey Cottage was also used for scenes in Road to Avonlea!
