Walnut Chocolate Cake
½ pound butter
6 whole eggs
1 cup flour
2 cups yellow sugar
1 cup walnut pieces
1 teaspoon cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
Sift together flour, baking powder and cocoa. Cream together butter, sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture slowly. Fold in nuts. Line oblong pan with waxed paper. Bake at 350F for 45 minutes or until cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool before using your favourite icing.
Green Salad
1 small head lettuce
½ cup chopped celery
1/3 chopped green pepper
1 ¼ cups water chestnuts, sliced
¼ cup chopped red onion
1 ¼ cups frozen peas
2 cups mayonnaise
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
½ cup grated Romano cheese
In the order specified, lay the vegetables in a bowl. Cover with mayonnaise and sprinkle with sugar. Grate the cheese over the salad. Cover and store in refrigerator. No need to toss the salad, just serve as is! Serves 8-10.
