In Season 7’s episode “From Away”, Ryan plays a British teenager who, along with his younger brother, is left to his own devices on the streets of Charlottetown after being rejected from their foster home for being “too difficult”. When they are caught stealing food, the two boys are sent to live at Felicity’s Foundling Home in Avonlea. But their mischevious ways do not end there. Even before settling in, Bret (Ryan’s character) is already picking fights with Davey Keith – fights that leave them brawling on the Foundling Home floor.
And his next target are the residents of Avonlea. Rounding up the boys of the town, including Davey, Bret orchestrates the beginning of a series of pranks all over town, leaving residents to remark under their breath as the boys pass by, “I always smell trouble afoot when boys congregate in a hoard like that.”
At first, viewers, just like Davey Keith, might be frustrated with Bret’s sometimes brutal behaviour. But not all children are completely rough around the edges. Here is a scene that encapsulates the makings of a truly great snowball fight that leaves both Hetty King and Rachel Lynde gasping for breath!
