If you’re looking to take your kids to a movie, there’s been an abundance of family-friendly films that have premiered this summer. A list of the summer’s most appropriate 10 were recently listed by Hillary Bowler of Desert News. Before Sarah Polley became synonymous with The Story Girl in Kevin Sullivan’s Road to Avonlea series, she portrayed another one of L.M. Montgomery famous characters in Sullivan’s film adaptation of Jane of Lantern Hill. Polley won a Gemini Award for her performance as the young orphan girl, Josephine Turner, in this award-winning movie.
This stunning production still of Colleen Dewhurst was taken on the set of Lantern Hill. The legendary stage and screen actress played the role of Hepzibah in the 1990 film, which also starred Road to Avonlea’s Sarah Polley.
One of Sullivan Entertainment’s recent endeavors has been to digitally restore the footage of it award-winning series, Road to Avonlea, into a high definition, widescreen format. So far, four of the show’s seven seasons have been completely re-mastered to the quality that Kevin Sullivan originally intended for his series, when production first began in 1989.
The sci-fi thriller, Splice, starring Road to Avonlea alumnus Sarah Polley and Adrian Brody, takes the lead in the number of Directors Guild of Canada Award nominations. Along with a best directing nomination for Vincenzo Natali, the film also garnered a best film nomination, along with three craft nominations for production design, editing and sound editing.
