Warm Winter Drinks

With colder temperatures ahead, warm up this season with some hot drinks and delicious cocktail recipes.

Mulled Cider

 

½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole cloves
8 cups cider
¼ teaspoon salt
Pinch grated nutmeg
2 orange slices
2 cinnamon sticks

 

Combine all of the ingredients (except the orange and cinnamon) in a saucepan and slowly bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. To serve, strain into small punch cups and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.

Hot Mulled Cider

 

2 quarts fresh or canned cider
Peel of 1 lemon
1 1-inch stick cinnamon
2 or 3tbsp. honey
1 orange, sliced
Whole cloves
2 maraschino cherries, sliced

Combine cider, lemon peel spirals, cinnamon and honey. Simmer 20 minutes. Serve hot topped with orange slices studded with clove, maraschino-cherry slices. Serves 6.

Hot Cranberry Punch

 

9 ½ cups cranberry juice
Four 6-ounce cans frozen lemonade
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon allspice
4 cups water
30 cinnamon sticks

 

Combine ingredients, except cinnamon sticks, in a one gallon container. Simmer gently 10 to 15 minutes. Do not boil. Serve hot in mugs, with cinnamon sticks to use as stirrers. Makes 30 one-half cup servings.
